Calphalon Try Ply Stainless

Here’s a completely new brand type we haven’t seen yet, the Calphalon Try Ply Stainless line.  In previous reviews we’ve seen 1 brand, another brand, and then a mix of the two.  The main feature of this line is the beauty of the stainless steel with the incredible performance of the aluminum core.  The aluminum core allows for a greatly superior cooking performance.  The problem with steel is the heat will stay in one place without moving away from the heat source and this allows for cold and hot spots resulting in uneven cooking.  This can be detrimental to larger pieces of meat where one part will be overcooked and the other will be undercooked.  The aluminum runs throughout the whole pot or pan in this series.  Aluminum allows for the heat to spread evenly throughout the pot or pan resulting in a much much more even heat spread.  This allows all spots in the pot or pan to cook evenly, giving much more control on what you do with your dish.  The aluminum core is a heavy gage as well, which will hold the heat long enough but not too long to where you’d need to take the pan off the heat source for too long if you wish to quickly change the food temperature.

Some of the advertised features from Calphalon include:

  • Classically styled with a polished, stainless steel exterior and a satin finished interior, Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel cookware is designed with three layers to ensure even, consistent heating.
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Induction capable
  • Oven & broiler safe
  • Stay-cool handles
We are liking this more than the standard Contemporary Stainless Steel mostly for the fact that it does have the aluminum core.  Sure the stainless steel has the contemporary styling but we can’t help but think that function is a lot more useful than pure style.  While of course the contemporary set is no doubt a great quality product it’s hard to pass up the aluminum core at almost the same price range.  Perhaps if you don’t use your cookware that much but like to have a good looking set in the kitchen you could go for the latter, and when you do happen to use them they work quite well!  If you’re constantly cooking with your cookware you’ll definitely see the advantage of having a completely even cooking surface and it will become a tool in your arsenal for making great dishes.

Also it should be noted that the lids are again tempered glass with a steel rim that allows you to see exactly how your sauce or liquid is doing in the pot.  It’s very convenient for checking for simmering or boiling liquids.

That’s about all we have to say about this product line.  If this is your first review you’ve read here you probably noticed we didn’t talk about the quality.  In the previous 3 reviews we’ve raved about Calphalon quality so we thought it might get a bit redundant if we mentioned it every single.  These are quality pots that will perform with the best.  We’ll leave you with a list of some of the Try Ply products:
